The President of the European Parliament David Maria Sassoli not only supports European mediation in resolving the political crisis in Georgia, but also is in touch with several MEPs “looking into possibilities to intensify the efforts of the European mediation.”

“As President Sassoli stressed after the meeting with Prime Minister Gharibashvili, the European Parliament supports all efforts to deescalate the situation in Georgia. President Sassoli is in touch with several MEPs looking into possibilities to intensify the efforts of the European mediation, in addition to the EP's democracy support activities that are already in place in Georgia. As these talks are ongoing, we cannot give any further information at this point,” European Parliament's spokesperson told the Accent.

On March 22 The European Council President Charles Michel said his special representative to mediate Georgia’s political crisis, Christian Danielsson will return to Tbilisi to continue mediation.

According to reports, on March 17 after meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili and later with EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell, the President of the European Parliament offered MEPs working on Georgian issues to set up an informal contact group for support of European Council President Charles Michel's efforts to be resolved political crisis in Georgia.
