Georgian monuments' documentarian Gogi Giorgobiani has been awarded with Georgia's National Parliamentary Library Award for his "special contribution to the creation of the historical archive".

A personal photo exhibition of the documentarian of Georgian monuments was held in the exhibition hall of the National Parliamentary Library.

"38 works are presented at the exhibition, there are black-and-white and color ones, mostly churches. I was the only documentarian who attended Father Gabriel's funeral and this is reflected in the book. I don't know, maybe I have done something good that God has given me such happiness," said Gogi Giorgobiani.

The deputy director of the National Parliamentary Library, Mirian Khositashvili, noted that the documentarian handed over hundreds of works to the library.

"Mr. Gogi handed over the National Parliamentary Library his works, hundreds of documents, each of them is a historical source, and because of this great merit, he was given a special award from the National Parliamentary Library," said Mirian Khositashvili.

Georgia's Culture Minister Tea Tsulukiani thanks the documentarian for giving of documents to the state.

"As we all know, he dedicated his entire conscious life to the monuments of cultural heritage and to our country in general. He will hand over this archive to the state, in paticular, to the National Library of the Parliament, and here, along with our congratulations, we should thank him for this," said Tea Tsulukiani.

More context: The exhibition was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Gogi Giorgobiani. At the anniversary evening, Georgia's National Parliamentary Library awarded him with a special award - a brooch. Only a few people have so far received this award. Gogi Giorgobiani handed over photo-documents depicting important historical facts of the 20th century to the National Parliamentary Library. The photo material is being digitized now. Gogi Giorgobian has photographed about two thousand historical exhibits, more than five hundred cultural, architectural and historical monuments, churches and monasteries. He took part in hundreds of archaeological expeditions.
