NATO does not recognise the so-called parliamentary election held on June 9 in the Russian-occupied Georgian region of Tskhinvali.
Elections in occupied Tskhinvali region are considered illegitimate by Tbilisi and many countries, including the U.S., Azerbaijan, Slovakia, Lithuania as well as the EU and OSCE.
“NATO does not recognise the so-called election held on June 9 in the Tskhinvali region of Georgia. This election does not contribute to a lasting settlement of the situation in Georgia,” NATO told the Accent on Monday.
As NATO stated, “Allies of the Alliance do not recognise the Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions of Georgia as independent states. NATO supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within its internationally-recognised borders."
