Ekaterine Tikaradze, Minister of Health of Georgia met Kelly C. Degnan, US Ambassador to Georgia.

According to the information released by the Ministry of Health of Georgia, Minister shared detailed information with diplomats on the prevention of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and current situation in the country towards this end.

Kelly C. Degnan, US Ambassador to Georgia noted that country is tackling the global crisis caused by COVID-19 very well and serves as a role model in the region.

In her opinion, several countries have been traveled by her, but Georgia truly stands out with its scope of control enforced at the airport.

“Georgia has taken very proactive measures against COVID-19, which have impressed me a lot. That is why the actual number of infected individuals is so marginal in the country. Georgia serves as a role model in the region. I returned from Washington D.C. several days ago and had transit stop-overs in several airports, though I need to note that the Georgian airport is still most mobilized in this regard. Staff is equipped with respective protection means. Inbound travelers get their body temperature measured upon arrival. Staff are very well organized. I need to stress that human health currently faces a crisis worldwide and we should all get united in response to this challenge. USA is working with its international partners and countries of the entire world to do everything possible to prevent a further spread of the virus. I appreciate the efforts made by Georgia. I hereby wish to urge the population of the country to adhere to recommendations and regularly wash hands, stay at home if they feel unwell. I also wish to stress that Georgians turned out to be very responsible people as they comply with rules of self-isolation and notify respective institutions when feeling unwell. I believe that you have well informed the general public. The aforesaid will help the region in preventing a further spread of the virus” noted the US Ambassador to Georgia.

According to the Minister of Health, diplomat has underlined the significance of holding an Online Conference of Ministers.

“Ambassador has noted that Georgia is one of the leading countries, which is tackling the global problem in the best possible manner. She expressed positive attitude towards our plans to hold an Online Conference of Healthcare Ministers. It will be a very important communication, where we will be sharing both our challenges and solutions to them. Kelly C. Degnan acting as a representative of a strategic partner of Georgia expressed readiness to support our country in this global challenge” concluded Ekaterine Tikaradze.
